PlayStation 5 Release Window & Other Details Revealed

If we’re gonna be honest, once the internet first got wind that the PlayStation 5 was likely to come out in 2020, most people assumed that we’ll see it around Christmas. And, now we know for sure. According to a post on PlayStation Blog, the PS5 is indeed going to make its debut some time during the 2020 Holiday season. There’s not exact launch date just yet, but I’m pretty confident we’ll know soon enough. And, for that matter, we also know that the console will, indeed bear the name of PlayStation 5, they’re not trying to reinvent the wheel with the naming.

So, yeah, no big surprises there. However, the post also reveals a bit more about the controller that’s gonna ship with the PS5. For one, they’re replacing the standard rumble technology with “haptic feedback.” This should give players a more refined tactile sensation while playing games. As the post puts it: “With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.”

The second controller innovation are gonna be “adaptive triggers.” Or, as they’re more commonly known, R2 and L2. What it boils down to is that game developers will be able to program the resistance of the trigger buttons. So, say you’re trying to draw a bow and arrow in the game. The devs will now be able to program the buttons in such a way that you have to press them harder. Both of these innovations sound like a lot of fun.
